Popovics said Immigration and Customs Enforcement determined that Mendoza was an illegal alien and placed a detainer on him. Mendoza was arraigned on Friday in Brockton District Court and released on personal recognizance by Judge Rosemary B. Minehan. He is scheduled for a Nov. 17 hearing. Immigration and Customs Enforcement could not be reached for comment. On Aug.20, a 23-year-old Milford man was killed when police said Nicolas D. Guaman, an illegal immigrant from Ecuador who was driving drunk, struck him on his motorcycle. The incident sparked anti-illegal immigration protests in Milford including a demonstration outside Town Hall before a meeting with representatives of the Ecuadorean government. On Aug.24, President Barack Obama's uncle was arrested in Framingham on suspicion of drunken driving. Officials said Onyango Obama is in the country illegally.
