- plz, help with this transcription from a video. Just two phrases?
Plz, (since English is not my first language) help me understand or correct what this very short video from this link: http://videos.howstuffworks.com/howstuffworks/450-how-choppers-work-video.htm says. So next it's most of the text I understood and the asterisks ** as the conventions for the sentences/ words I couldn't understand completely: "The custom chopper motorcycle: It’s been immortalized on cable TV to the point of legend. But what does it really look like if you had one built? The build process starts with a frame. ***The chop can have assemble it or use a stock frame***. Next, you pick the engine and transmission you want, along with the exhaust system. Then, there’s the stuff that affects the ride: the front fork, the wheels and the tires. And then you customize the look: the gas tank, fenders, seat and the **handle** bars set the tone. Finally, there’s the paint. A great paint job ***can give out ____**** authentic vintage feel or transform it into a rolling work of art complete with paint striping and custom-air brushing. The only limits are your imagination and your wallet."
A The corrections I wrote in ALL CAPS "The custom chopper motorcycle: It’s been immortalized on cable TV to the point of legend. But what does it really look like if you had one built? - Why are motorcycles so BIG these days?
I started on a Vulcan 900, a midsize, but it still looked and felt pretty big. I'm a little guy, but felt okay on it. The problem with it was that it sucked on the interstate. The engine wound up so much going 75mph that it felt with it was about to fly apart. So I'm wanting a bigger displacement engine now - 1000cc+ I always wanted a Harley and I'm looking at them again. I test rode a street bob and loved it - but only took it a short distance. I've always heard of reliability issues with HD's, and it's sounding like the 96"ers have a tendency to get very hot. Plus, HD's are frickin expensive. So I've been revisiting the Jap lineups. I don't have any opposition to Jap bikes fundamentally. More reliability, more consistent performance, for a lower price......... But they all look stupid. Exception: the yamaha raider. Mean streak is okay. My 900 custom was cool looking, but it had a dirt bike rear fender. My dad has a 07 Vulcan 1500 classic. I've ridden it and it is a great bike, but I'm a little guy and I feel like I'm sitting on top of an elephant. It seems like so many jap bikes are like this - HUGE. The M109, the meanstreak, the Raider (feels like a limousine). I can handle them, but I just feel strange being a little dude on something so huge. I'm at an indecision. My heart says Harley, my brain (and wallet) says Jap. My brain also kinda says Harley because they just look so dang awesome. Nothing stands out as bizarre or weird looking to me, like almost every Jap bike does. Why can't a jap cruiser have a 1300-1500cc engine without plastic pistons and is not the size of an elephant? I'm not referring to the full dressers as much. Look at the super glide - 1584cc. Look at the mean streak 1600cc. See the difference? The mean streak looks like a pregnant super glide. Look at the fat boy and look at the vulcan 1700 classic. See the difference? Look at the Street glide and look at the nomad. Look at the M109R and look athe V-ROD And still, an electra glide doesn't look as bulbous to me as a Kawasaki voyager or Goldwing. And I'm talking about appearance - not weight. Actually, I think the radiator is what makes the japs look bigger. The radiator is so wide that they make everything else wider to blend in with it (fenders, headlight, tank, tires, bars) When I rode the street bob - I hopped on it and blazed down the road without giving it a thought. When I rode my dads vulcan 1500 classic, it was like I was.... riding an elephant, as I said. So yes, I can "hold up" a harley.
A It's all up to your preference. The newer Twin-Cam Harley's are rather reliable, A lot of people are getting 80-100k with only basic service. The Heat from is mostly from the factory tuning to meet emissions, and you'll notice it a lot more on a dresser than the Dyna, but with a free flowing exhaust, Intake and re-tune (Around $600 w/Slip-ons) it won't be a problem. Also, the Yamaha V-Stars are comfortable bikes as well.
