- How to make custom pipes for motorcycle?
I have a 1980 Honda cmt 400. I want to make it LOUD... I rode with a custom bobber several weeks ago and he had custom pipes on his bike (I never got his number) but his bike was so loud, I couldnt hear my engine when I was riding with him.. it was amazing. I was wondering what I have to exactly do. I found this video and was looking for some SPECIFIC guidance, the person from this video never responded back to me. Thanks for the help! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvIco-GjC5o
A Ok, answered your other then saw this. Loud and slow - and it'll never be a Harley. Take it from me, you do NOT want loud pipes on that little Honda. Some cager will cream you just for giggles. You will get nothing but grief from straight pipes. Can't be tuned for a wide power band. You lose bottom end (and with less than 400cc you aint got much to start with). You've got a decent basic bike there. It is what it is, but will never be much more. It was built to be rock solid and reliable - not a screamer.

- Motorcycle builders, here is a ? for you...?
First off, I have to tell you I know absolutely nothing about building these machines, so if my question is a dumb one, then you at least will know why. I was watching a show on TLC last night that featured Jesse James (from Monster Garage) who apparently is now doing custom motorcycles, and who also is one of the few in the U.S who can still do hand tooling, and hand forming to custom make parts. My question is this. All the gas tanks that he did were basically a modified tear drop shape, with a few minor variations on them to make them customized. Is it possible to make a gas tank the shape of a 3-D lightning bolt? I thought it would be so cool looking, but never saw anything there that resembled one. Thanks for all your answers and have a great day.
A First off, JJ was making bikes quite a while before Monster Garage. The modified teardrop shape is the most common because it pretty much fits the space best between the bars and the seat, but any shape is possible. I can't remember who did it, but someone built a custom for Ozzy Osbourne and the tank was a 3-D cross that looked pretty slick.
