- Do any of these motorcycle listings look like a good deal to you?
I decided that I am going to be going for a newer '05-'08 Yamaha motorcycle. I've been looking at the V-Star series, and that best fits my price range as well. I found a few postings on Craigslist in my area of people selling their V-Stars, and some of them say they did custom work to their bike, and since I am a very new motorcycle enthusiast, I have trouble understanding what the custom work they mention even means, or how much it's worth. I am a new female rider, that's why I decided to go with a used bike. Please see the listings below and help me determine which one of these would be worth checking out, and WHY! And what do they mean by the custom work they have had done. Thank you! http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/mcy/1037445120.html http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/mcy/1039148338.html http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/mcy/1035198991.html http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/mcy/1034875274.html
A Things you need to know when buying a motorcycle-accessories are add ons put on by the owner for his or her tastes/needs. They do little to boost the price of a used machine. Anybody who says things like Loads of extra chrome, and stuff like that is just wasting print, as it is still a used bike and as such used chrome. Things that will add some value to a motorcycle-if you happen to like them are a factory windshield-not aftermarket. If you buy a Yamaha, then put overpriced Yamaha windshields on it. That will add a small amount to the resale price-provided it is in excellent shape-no nicks dings, scratches etc. One thing I notice about bike #4 it has aftermarket loud pipes on it and has been rejetted for them. Loud pipes tend to cause headaches if you aren't use to them as well as can cause problems with neighbors in city conditons. I would ask to ride the bike and see if this noise is excessive and how the bike runs. Rejetting a bike unless done proper messes a lot of things up. Every sit at a light when a Harley rolls up and the owner has to keep blipping the throttle and the bike backfires and mis fires? Rejetting was not done or done proper. You want to make sure this is not you. Any used motorcycle that is as new as you want should be show room pristine condition. No nicks dings or scratches. It should have a new battery in it or negotiate on the price of a battery as 3-5 years is all a battery is gonna last in a bike. New battery for it $70 Walmart plus a charger to charge the battery and 10 minutes to remove old and install new.
