- What kind of paint shall I use on my custom motorcycle frame?
I am building a custom chopper, hardtail stretched and raked with a 300mm back tire, and I was wondering if anybody has experience with painting the frame. I want to avoid powder coating because of the cost. What paints are durable enough to withstand the test of time and avoid chipping? Thanks. Eastwood makes a paint for automobile chassis, does anyone have any experience with this? Or other brands? Thanks.

A The Eastwood paint has a satin finish. Here is the product description. Chassis Black® Satin Paint Qt Not glossy, not dull, just right! Authentic 60-70% gloss looks great on suspension parts and frame. Available in Qts. (covers 40 sq. ft.) and Aerosol (covers 8 sq. ft.). Proper for all makes and models. Tough formulation resists chips,corrosion and temperatures up to 300 degrees F ; covers fast, up to four times the coverage of similar size Aer.; average car uses just 3 to 5 cans for entire chassis! (Available in quarts,sprayable only) Works great over bare metal, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, or Eastwood Chassis Black Primer. I had my swing arm modified a couple of years ago, then bead blasted to bare metal. I used Krylon sray finishes for the primer and the finish. After two coats of primer, and sanding with 600 grti paper, I applied several coats of gloss black. After more than 30k miles there is still no chipping or rust. One cuation about doing the painting your self, you can't wait too long for the paint to harden. I did this work in the winter and set up a heat lamp to accelerate hardening. It was still more than a week before the paint was truely hard enough to reassemble the swing with out fear of damaging the surface.

- I'm looking for a transmission for a Briggs & Stratton vanguard it is mounted on a custom motorcycle frame.?
Has anyone or know of any motorcycle transmission that I can add to my custom built motorcycle> Currently I have a 23 HP B&S Vtwin vanguard. With a Comet CVT. I would like to have a 4, 5 or 6 speed transmission with a clutch. Any Ideas. Thanks

A He man. What you are trying to do is a good idea. Don't let anybody talk you down. I'm a 51 year old that is doing the same thing, I also ride Harley Davidson and Brit bikes. The Vanguard will probably be a very durable engine requiring less work as long as you keep it up,,,may out-last most bike engines. One of your biggest problems isn't finding the tranny as long as you can get it to mount to the frame. What you are going to have problems with will be the link between the two, it will require machining. Damned near any tranny in 4-5 or 6 speed should work. Try looking at Baker, Ultima and if at all possible, use a British tranny. Check e-bay. You aren't going to use the CVT are you? An open belt primary at about 1.5 inch will do you. You may have to spend the bucks but I wouldn't go over 600 bucks. I can probably help you if you aren't in a hurry. My help costs nothing. I'll just be pointing you in a direction.
