- Honda Shadow Spirit 750 C2 or Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom???
I'm in the process of getting a motorcycle as a x-mas gift to my self. I'm new in this world of motorcycles and I finally came down to my best two options. Option # 1 is a 2007 Honda Shadow Spirit 750C2 Option # 2 is a 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom Please don't be offended if I say that I kinda like the looks of the Vulcan 900 a little better. My thing is that I know the name Honda is just one of the best. The price is around the same (only 550 diff) between the two. The Honda did felt a bit more comfortable than the Kawasaki but the looks brings me back to kawasaki. Here are my questions. Is Kawasaki as good and reliable as honda? I know that there is a 158 cc diff so would that be a noticeable difference? I kinda see the Vulcan as a more value bike due to for only $550 more you get fuel injection, fuel gauge, bigger engine, some really nice wheels and a more aggressive look. So taking all considerations would a Vulcan 900 Custom be a better bike? Pls help Tks
A if u are like me, before too long, u will be itchin to make alot of 100 or 150+ mile rides. i ride a harley xl1200r roadster. a buddy of mine rides a 750 shadow. almost looks like a dyna low rider in a way, and is great on gas. downside of them tho is, has no throttle lock, after about 100 miles u want a break, if u plan to ride 2 up, the back seater needs to be 150 pounds or lighter. compared to the vulcan, the shadow is a featherweight. the vulcan will have a big more power and weight. but the added weight will also make cruising at high speeds more comfy. fuel injection will make the scoot warm up quicker vs carbs. in either case, RIDE YER OWN RIDE. u've heard the saying, but what does it mean? it means: ride within ur abilities and 'safety zone'. that means if u dont feel comfortable taking 35 mph curves at 60 just to keep up with the pack, dont. dont let other's dictate how u ride; u will be the 1 gettin road rash if u go down, not them. i'd also suggest if u've been out of the saddle for awhile, take the msf course, or order some video's from motorman. check out www.ridelikeapro.com. i have 1 of these video's, and i can tell ya straight up, they make a world of difference. keep the rubber side down.

- motorcycle sounds like its pinging in one cylinder?
I have an 82 cx500 custom. brief history. i bought bike this summer and have put 1,500 on is so far, bike only has 21k on it, have changed oil filter lubed drive train and bled breaks swapped coolant. i have been changing fuel type since i have gotten it. the guy i bought it from used 93 octane he had no issues for a whole year. i put it in and it ran fine. i then went to 89 octane. and it started what sounds like a pinging in what i think is the left cylinder so i went to 87. but in going 60 mph when i hear it and it only happens at 3k-3.3k rpm. I looked it up and fixes could be . plug gap and or gas grade or running to lean. so I checked gap and it was way to small! re gapped plugs, and turned up carbs a little. i saw much better performance and it was like a brand new bike!!! seemed like it was running nitro fuel compared to what it previously was. 3 days or 70 miles later same issue. sounds like a pinging at 3k rpm. runs good at all rpm though, no shudders no hesitation at low or high rpms. i have taken it on the highway and going 70-75 at 6k rpms accelerated fine and no backfiring. i put about 3 tbs of injector cleaner in it and ran great for a whole tank of gas. filled it up and problem cane right back. i guess im just looking for a second opinion on what i think the problem is. i think i might have a dirty or partially clogged carb, causing one cylinder to be lean causing pinging in one cylinder. i took off cylinder heads and checked clearance with a feeler gauge. seemed fine to me. changed caps and wires with no difference. heres my next list of things to do this winter let me know if im on the right track or going in the wrong direction. this winter i plan on pulling carbs and cleaning them and replacing all fuel and air lines they are from 82 and with the ethanol in gas could be causing rubber lines to deteriorate and clog carbs?
