1977 Harley Davidson sportster info?
I will be inheriting a 1977 harley sportster from my uncle who passed. I have never owned a harley as I have only owned sports bikes, and I am having trouble finding information on this bike. Anyone know of good websites with info and parts for this bike. I would like to replace certain pieces that have rust and what not on them. Any info on this bike would be helpful

Is this a good bike? How would you rate it overall? I would like to make it really nice (has been sitting a long time, but runs great) Does this bike have any value? I do not want to put too much into it if it is only worth 500 bucks. I could just use it as is. Thanks again

They do hold their value,how much depends which model it is. There should be a tag on the neck(xlh,xlch,xls)I'm not sure when xlx came outbut those are rare,or if its a caferacer. You are going to have rust on some parts because it has cast iron parts (ironhead). JandPcycles,custom crome,and several others have replacement parts. Set up right it will keep up with most sport bikes. A good one can be worth over 4500

I don't think that you will find such a part number. You will likely have to order all the parts individually. If it were a Big Twin, with its separate transmission, you might be able to buy it as a complete unit.

I need help to troubleshoot my 1996 Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster speedometer.?
The speedometer doesn't work on my 96' 1200 Sportster but the electronic odometer read out and the back light still work fine. First thing I did was take out the Mag Pick-Up from the case and clean it of the metal shavings that were on it. Ran it and still no dice. I need to get the voltage and resistance numbers so I can troubleshoot with a multimeter. I don't want to just start throwing parts at it until it works so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I don't have the literature with me at home for your bike, but I have the troubleshooting flowchart from my 99 Buell, the speedos are almost identical, the same troubleshooting SHOULD apply. You can try it and see if it helps, although, for some of the check, there is a special speedo daignostics tester required that mainly HD dealerships only will have.
