Faq About Motorcycle Cables Lines

Richard asks…

Motorcycle problem?

I changed the throttle cable and fuel line on my bike and now its running weird. Its been revving up on its own at idle and then stalling or just stalling when I let off the gas. I never messed with any of the mixcher screws. Any one know what might be going on here?

Renew the filter?
Id say some crap has gone from the tank to the carbies, time to clean the fuel bowls out

Mark asks…

how to install an alarm for a motorcycle/scooter?

Alarming System and alarm system horn PART NUMBER: VN49-B04.44 SECONDARY #: 97600B20T000 SUPPLIER: QJ
it was given to me and no it doesn't have instructions, wiring diagram, or manual of any kind.
(i don't even know if it is just a horn or if it does anything like cut off the battery current or anything like that) but it was a gift for my scooter and i would really like to put it on myself because if i take it to a shop it will cost me at least $100.00

Additional Details
it has 9 cables going into a rubber socket looking plug [my scooter doesn't have a plug for that socket as far as i know i might be wrong but the scooter is a gtr 150], plus the cables going to the horn, a ground wire, and a stiff wire (i think it is the antenna) and all this connected to a little black box
the colors of the 9 cables that go into the rubber socket are:
1 red with a fuse,
1 red,
1 black,
2 yellows (one with a green line)
1 dark green
3 green (one with a white line and one with a black line)

Joseph asks…

Why does my motorcycle top out at 75?

Bike: '83 Honda Magna 750

I'm pretty new to riding, and this is my first bike. When I first got it, it ran great. After about 3 months I had it taken in to get the Carbs cleaned and synced. The place i took it to turned out to be a giant fuck fest and the bike came back with clean carbs, but with a worse clutch and throttle issues. Before I took it in, the bike was pretty powerful and I had it up to 95 mph a few times myself. When I got it back, there was absolutely no power and the bike topped out at 70-75. Gunning it at fifty before was no problem, but now doing that causes it to chug and the speed increase is pathetically slow. The clutch issues turned out to be easily resolved. I just bled the line (a hydrolic clutch) to get the air out and it was back to perfect.I think that when they were messing with the carbs, the jostled cables to screw up the clutch. I'm wondering if something similar happened with the throttle cable that might not let the throttle open all the way. I tinkered with it a bit, but really don't know much about what i'm doing. Does anyone have advice about what might be causing the problem. Maybe I'm looking in completely the wrong direction to fix the problem.
hey tree-bag. Fuck you. I'm worried that my bike can't accelerate for shit when i'm going 60. So if I need to move fast on the interstate or somewhere to get out of the way I can't. Why do you even bother "answering". Piece of shit.

Messing with the carbs would not put air in your clutch, that was just coincidence. Ask the shops if they changed your jetting. If they did what from and what to. If not the process of syncing carbs involves hooking up vacuum gages and then adjusting your mixture screws. I've been in the bike game 11 years and have only met a couple people who can do this properly without a manual on hand to tell them how to set the carbs correctly. As the mixture usually only affects idle and throttle response, I'd be wondering if they put all the jets back in the right places. Outer carbs run cooler and thus need to be richer than inner carbs. Also are the secondary needle settings correct? These would be the most likely to affect top end perfromance assuming nothing else was changed.
