- 1977 Honda Motorcycle cb400f wont turnover?
I bought the Honda, it started up fine. I drove it around once or twice and it died on me. I realized i ran out of gas, i put gas in and it would start and die out on me. I replace the batterey and clean the carb. Now it turns over and dies right away. I damage two of the slow jets in the carb. Not bad, just a little crushed in. could that be it? Here is a video of me starting the bike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV4LJFAk5l8&feature=player_profilepage And here is a album of pictures of the bike. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v205/jakeklarkowski/motorcycle/
A It's trying to start, sounds like it starts with the choke. How did you smash pilot jets? They should be REPLACED in a bike that old anyway, they have tiny openings that get corrosion and crud accumulated around them and reduce fuel flow, and you got aftermarket pipes on it so it needs more fuel than stock. Check fuel flow from the tank, maybe the screen is plugged with rust and crap.

- What could be wrong with Honda CM450 motorcycle that's been in storage for 4 years?
I'm going to check out an '82 Honda CM 450 (precursor to Nighthawk and Rebel lines). It has been in storage for several years. Anything in particular to watch out for? How hard is it flush out the old gas? This is the craigslist ad (including pictures): http://richmond.craigslist.org/mcy/1432037955.html I found this site that says the engine starts having trouble around 25K but should last till around 50K http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/buyersguide/Honda-CB400T-CB400N-CB400THawk-CB450Hawk-CB450SC-Nighthawk.htm
A Jordan is incorrect-that is nothing for mileage on a bike that old. Even if it had sat for 10 years it is still nothing for mileage. As fire says, drain the tank and the carbs, pull the petcock-before reinstalling make sure to check the condition of the "o ring" on it. No sense in putting it back on and then find the oring no longer seals. . Brake lines might need replacing. Brake fluid is caustic and it will probably also need to be changed. Change the oil and filter on the bike That way you are sure of your starting point. I never take the word of someone who says "oil was just changed", or words to that effect. I am concerned when someone says to leave the bike expert at home. Seems they are trying to hide something. But he says the bike fires right up, so check and see-get him to start it, rev it up (after obtaining normal operating temp) and see if he will let you take it for a spin or you watch him ride the bike if you don't have a bike license. You want to make sure the transmission has all its gears, the clutch isn't slipping, and the chain is adjusted. Other than that, those engines are bullet proof. they will run forever. Heck I wish Honda was still making and selling bikes with that little engine in it. It will do 80 m.ph all day long-just not very comfortably-for you the rider.
