FAQ - Customer Questions - Honda Motorcycle Gauges Reviews
- Does anyone know how to restore/reburbish Honda Motorcycle speedometer tachometer gauges?
I have a 1973 Honda CB350, and the face of the gauges are starting to fade. Does anyone know how hard it would be to take them apart and rebuild them? Or, better yet, know of a business I could send them to to replace the faces and the glass?
A In 1973 Honda sold more cb/cl 350 motorcycles than ALL the other motorcycle manufacturers sold motorcycles COMBINED. The CB, CL, and the SL all had the same guages. I don't know about a refinish but replacements are available all over. Call 610-521-6700. Ask for a nice set. Also can fit 72, 74, 75.

- Can I use a different set of Honda Motorcycle gauges in place of my broken ones?
I have a 1994 Honda CB1000 "The Big One" motorcycle. The previous owner wrecked it, and I have restored everything, except the gauges. I am currently using a bike speedometer, but I hate this. I have seen some older gauges for honda on Ebay for around 50 USD. They range from CB500's to CB750's. My question is, can I use these speedometers in place of what was on this bike? Will there be an accuracy issue? Also, will the speedometer cables differ? I am very curious because I do not want to pay 450 dollars for my cluster, which seems to be the going rate these days. I know it is cable drive as I have the cable in my hands and took it off the bike while restoring it. I'll look in drag specialties, but they seem to be like all the other bike stores I have looked at. I want to get away from the digital gauges, as these are not what I want to use.
A More than likely, the tach is electronically driven and any bike using a dual lead ignition coil will work as long as you know which wires go where. You might check to see if your bike actually has a traditional speedometer cable or if it's actually a wire. If a wire, then it has an electric speedo as well. Electric tachs and speedos operate by counting electrical pulses and while ignition pulses are universal, the pulse generator used for the speedo aren't. The gear reduction on most speedos is universal as is the size of the cable, but the the worm gear drive varies depending upon the size of the front wheel. You might check out aftermarket speedos and tachs from something like Drag Specialties.
