- Changing Parts on the Motorcycle (Anyone with Electrical Knowledge Please Answer)?
I am converting an old xl250 to a 12V system from a 6v system. I already swapped the 6V regulator for a 12V one, swapped the battery for a 12V battery, and the lights are all 12V ready. I need to rewind the stator to output higher to charge the battery. I have been told that if I do so that the ignition system will also receive too much power. Is there a way to regulate this power down to only accept 6V. Like on the line going to the points/ignition coil to hook something inline to cut down the power to 6V instead of the incoming 12V. Would I be able to use my old 6V regulator somehow? Please help and thanks in advance.
A What you need is a VOLTAGE SPLITTER or Rheostat, a Variable resistor, Put 12VDC in and turn a dial or trigger until it puts out 6VDC. __12VDC___vvvvvv___ GND ^l_____6 VDC____ ign
